Snape/Sirius: The Miseducation of Severus Snape, by Not Exactly Dickens

Title: The Miseducation of Severus Snape
Author: Not Exactly Dickens ([info]hb_princess)
Pairing: Snape/Sirius
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Rape and dubious consent, bestiality, bondage, spanking, object insertion, underage sex. Also contains Snape/Lucius, Snape/Voldemort, Snape/several others.
Author's summary: Sirius Black is obsessed. Severus Snape is confused. Five months that will change their lives.

Why everyone should read this:
If this fic were printed on paper, my copy would be as ragged as a Sears catalogue in the outhouse by now. It's without a doubt the hottest thing I've ever read, bar none. Hear that? The. Hottest. Thing. But caveat lector: it's dark, dark, dark. If you don't kink hard for non-con and AbusedBottom!Snape, it may not be to your taste. If you do, though, you will be wondering where this fic has been all your life.

During their school days, Sirius discovers a curious fascination at the root of his hatred for Snape, and forces him into one of the most fucked-up, poisoned relationships I have ever seen in print. It's abusive, it's manipulative, and at times it's even tender in a clumsy way, which is all the more grotesque considering the level of cruelty these two people subject each other to. This story is both an amazingly nuanced tragedy about incredibly real, three-dimensional people, and some of the most smoking hot porn you'll ever read. And there is a LOT of porn. But what will really get you is the complexity of the characterization. Snape is at once vulnerable and ruthless, sensitive and manipulative; Sirius is arrogant and cruel yet strangely innocent; and together, they are a toxic combination.

This story is not for everyone. For one thing, this Sirius is Not A Nice Guy. He does some truly unforgivable, horrific things. He is at no point a caricature, though - Not Exactly Dickens has done the work of justifying her interpretation of him. Also, please heed the warnings - there is heavy non-con, bestiality, and all kinds of other perverse shit that only sickos like me enjoy. If you're squicked by the idea of a relationship that starts out non-consensual and turns into something resembling consensual, you may also wish to avoid. I encourage you to give this fic a try if you aren't bothered by these things, though. It is absolutely unforgettable, and if you're like me, you'll read it over and over again.

Excerpt

Snape was trembling. "Don't you fucking touch me, you--"

"Oh, shut your gob." Sirius leaned down and kissed him. Snape made a muffled sound of protest and tried to turn his head away, but Sirius grabbed his jaw in digging fingers, holding him still. He forced Snape's mouth open and pushed his tongue deep, so deep it had Snape bucking beneath him, straining for air. By the time Sirius released him, both of them were licking at bruised, stinging lips and Snape was panting like Padfoot on a hot day.

"What...do you...want?" Snape whispered again. There was no sneer, no obscenities, no attempt at bravado now. He was in trouble here, real trouble, the kind he couldn't scheme or lie or hex his way out of, and he clearly knew it. Jesus, he really is scared, Sirius realized, and he didn't know if that thought made him feel guilty or glad or just hornier than ever.

"I want you to like me, Severus." He ran a fingertip along Snape's mouth. "I just want you to like me." The finger continued down, over throat and chest and heaving belly, tickling through dark curls and over the soft shaft of the Slytherin's cock. He wrapped his hand around it and gave it a firm stroke, base to tip, and Snape grunted, hips jerking hard. "I'm going to make you like me."

Oh, oh, mmm, ehm, oh. I'd like to try but I want a spoiler. I'm scared of unhappy endings. There's such an undefinable thing where I can love a story even if everybody died but they had had *something* before, something good, or what can be considered good on the totally fucked-up background. I dunno. Sanguine... is OK in this respect, and As Sharp as Sunlight, but Prisoner de Guerre isn't. Could you e-mail me the spoiler for the ending? Your rec is so appealing!

Hon, I'm not sure if it's for you. Do wait on the spoiler. Believe me, from what I could gather, NOTHING I'd classify as "good" happened during the rest of the story. And I, too, liked Sharp As Sunlight, if you can believe it. I even liked Sanguine because of the end. How could I *not* love that ending??? :)

I knew that one was not going to be quite to my taste, so I read the end, just to see how it came out. The writing was excellent, and I could tell the story followed a mightily twisted path -- I got the gist of what had happened, and I was VERY impressed with the premise. However, once I read the end, I knew I couldn't read the rest. :)

Totally understandable. I knew not everybody was going to find it to their taste. It's Not A Happy Story, that's for sure. :)

Well, that went directly into my "Snape/Black very dark" folder.... And no, I didn't create the folder just for the story, I've a collection. Look forward to reading!

wow.

Usually I don't like ugly stuff but I kind of expect it of Snape/Sirius so it's not like someone's killed by fluffywabbit. Also, the sex is sounding hot. Gonna have to read.

I read this one a while back when athenakt recced it on sufferingsev, well worth the read (to put it mildly), and the end suited it, the way it went straight into hard Canon at that point.

Yes, the story is good written. Unfortunately neither teenage!Sirius nor abusedBottom!Severus sparked my interest. I'm sorry. :/

I read half of this and ended up skimming the rest. I felt the story went wrong after a certain point (something about Lupin being present in a few scenes that didn't work), but was curious enough to see how the story was wrapped up. Excellent Sirius and Snape characterizations and though the reason for their relationship was a bit of a stretch, it still worked. I usually avoid Snape/Black fics, too, so it's saying something that I stayed with this story as long as I did.

Thanks for the interesting rec though. :)

Just finished reading it last night/this morning. Not a Snape/Black fan but this story truly sucked me in. I thought Lupin's 'silent, non-involved' presence was a perfect characterisation of him throughout the story because it echoed his role among the rest of the Marauders. I'm going to have to track you down on the messenger and discuss it with you one of these days. :)

I wibbled a little bit before I decided to read this, on basis that I wasn't sure I would be happy with myself if I ended up liking it. Does that make sense?

Then I read it.

I am not happy with myself in the slightest. God, it's incredible that this story could be so obviously polished and brilliantly crafted and compelling and yet horrify me so completely. This story is possibly the best and worst thing I have read. Angst I love, noncon I can deal with, but I am awed and appalled that [info]hb_princess could develop these characters so painstakingly, make me care about them so much, and then totally shatter them. I...I need H/D fluff, right now. Right. Fucking. Now.

Thanks, rex, you're an accessory to blowing my mind.

I do not even know where to begin.
Reading all of your comments here (yes, even the critical ones) has blown me away. I can't even put into words how much I'm beaming right now. I honestly thought this fic was dead in the water. It was a labor of love (yes, dark as it was, it was LOVE), and to see it discussed and acknowledged in terms like these is...mind-boggling.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank you all SO much for your kind comments, both here and on my own journal. Especially my friend rex, who has been my A-1 pimp and cheerleader since she first read this epic. You rock, rex. (Christ, this is starting to sound like a Oscar speech.)

And for those of you who have lighter tastes, I will be posting something fun and rather ridiculous within the next few days.

But can I clear up just a couple of points? (SPOILERS - don't read unless you've finished "Miseducation")

1) Lupin was not present wehen Padfoot raped Snape; nor were James or Peter. As Sirius explains in Chapter 8, he and Snape were in the Room of Requirement, and his fellow Marauders were actually creations out of Sirius's mind via the room's magic. So no hate mail, please. THE OTHER MARAUDERS WERE NOT THERE. NOT. THERE.

2) The reason Snape is so amply endowed is the same reason he has a nice arse - I wanted to tie it into the whole James hanging him upside-down thing. Because I wanted that to be the moment when Black realized his fascination, you know?

(And also, I just really love decribing his cock.)

Thank you all again. Really.

I must say it is without a doubt my favorite fanfic of all time. It got me really into SiriusxSnape since.. man their love was just so sad. It sent me head over heels in love with Snape(before it was just me liking him as a character). This is a really good fic, period.

This story was absolutely fabulous. I am rereading Prisoner of Azkaban right now and I can't stop thinking about this story. I feel like I finally understand why they hate each other so much. This absolutely felt like a punch in the gut in the best possible way when I finished it.
