Why Everyone Should Read This: Apart from being a brilliant and moving story that will make you cry unless you are made of granite, I chose this one to rec first because if you are still trying to get your head around the pairing, this story will ease you into it. There's no sex, there's no heavy romantic stuff at all, there's just two people taking care of each other. Snape has been languishing in Azkaban awaiting a perpetually delayed trial for the murder of Dumbledore until Luna rescues him and takes him to an extra dimension she's created from her own imagination. It's as Lewis-Carrollean as you'd expect from Luna, but it's Snape who's Alice this time, and emotionally, Luna is by far the wiser of the two. I found myself thinking that the story itself is Luna-esque - gentle, sweet, loopy, and surprisingly profound.
Keep in mind that, like most things, this story is AU after book 6.
Excerpt:
“It's all right to get up.” Luna's soft voice woke him from his reverie.
He looked up at her big round eyes. “I …I can't.”
“They don't ever leave us, you know,” she said as she placed a hand on his shoulder.
He let out a soft sigh. “I don't know anything.”
“That's not true. If anything, you know too much. Perhaps it's time to forget for a little while.”
He looked up at her to ask her what she meant but he couldn't get the words out. Instead he remained frozen as she leaned forward and placed a small kiss on his lips. Neither closed their eyes, but instead watched each other as their lips met in the middle.
She pulled back and smiled. “Did I do that right?”
He only nodded back slowly. “It was fine.”
